Tips for Taking a Road Trip with a Baby
The Ingy Bingy Band, a pacifier wristband, is the pacifier accessory you need to make sure your baby stays calm during your road trip!
I’ll be the first to admit that driving long distances with a baby is not an easy task. My family has not taken many trips since we’ve had kids. However, sometimes road trips are inevitable. My in-laws live 2.5 hours away and I’m guessing not every person in your family lives in the same town either!
Here’s our best tips for making a car ride with a baby as enjoyable as possible!
- Pacifier: Crying kids in the car is one of my biggest triggers for anxiety. Being trapped in a small space with someone screaming at the top of their lungs gets my heart racing. With toddlers, you can usually talk them down and figure out what’s wrong pretty quickly, but when you have a tiny newborn with no way to communicate, you can find yourself distracted for long periods of time while trying to drive.
That’s where an infant pacifier comes in! One of the best ways for babies to stay calm in the car is with an infant pacifier. However, you run into issues when the infant pacifier keeps falling out! When you’re on the highway you can’t just constantly stop to put it back in. That would make your trip unbelievably long!
Pacifier clips are great for helping babies to get the pacifier back in their mouth on their own, but studies say babies cannot typically do that on their own until about 8 months. Using a pacifier clip unsupervised also runs the risk of strangulation or choking in their car seat!
The best way to combat this problem is the Ingy Bingy Band! The Ingy Bingy band is the pacifier accessory you need to make sure your baby stays calm during your road trip! It is a pacifier wristband (or pacifier bracelet) that velcros around baby’s wrist to help them self-soothe from as early as 4 months! This pacifier wristband allows baby to stay calm, happy, or asleep since they will constantly have access to their newborn pacifier!
2. Toys that attach to their car seat: As I mentioned above with the pacifier, nothing is worse than a lost toy that neither baby or mom can reach. Using toys that velcro around your baby’s car seat handle will save you a lot of frustration!
3. Plan stops, but be flexible: Plan for breaks in your trip for nursing/bottle feeding and diaper changes. Baby will want to stretch and need some time out of their car seat. However, babies move to the beat of their own drum so if baby is crying a lot and their infant pacifier doesn’t seem to be helping, they may be hungry earlier than you hoped! Follow baby’s lead and stop earlier if they need to!
No matter how much you plan, your road trip may not go to plan. You might try toys, pacifiers, extra stops and nothing seems to help. It might make you feel like a failure as a mom. Please know that you are not a failure! You are doing a great job! Traveling with babies is just hard, but hopefully these tips make it a little bit easier!
