How To Get Your Baby To Sleep Through The Night?

The newborn pacifier attaches to the Ingy Bingy Band, a pacifier wristband, so it’s always within their reach! When it falls out, they simply move their arm back up to their mouth to get their pacifier instead of you losing sanity and having to lose sleep to do it for them!

Lack of sleep is the hardest thing about parenting. This is a hill I will die on. It is so hard to function when you are not fully recharged. Our oldest didn’t sleep through the night until he was 14 months old. I was an emotional wreck most of the time. I vividly remember have a mental breakdown in front of my boss because I just couldn’t think straight. I was bawling because I was going on a year of interrupted sleep. Luckily, my boss was fabulous and told me to go home and take a nap. I don’t want this to happen to you though. I want you to get the sleep you need so you can be the best mama you can be!

Truthfully, getting your baby to sleep all night is one of the greatest moments of parenting, but how do you do it?! Let me be the first to tell you there is NO one size fits all method. I have three kids and they all slept through the night at different ages. You can do the same thing for one and it doesn’t work for the next! It’s so frustrating. Sometimes it makes you constantly feel like a first time mom!

I don’t have all the answers, but I do have some wonderful tips to hopefully get your baby sleeping all night long as soon as possible!

  1. Swaddle: Babies are snuggled up nice and tight when they’re in the womb. Helping them feel tight and cozy will help them sleep better! We didn’t know any better with our first so we tried loose blankets to swaddle and they always came undone and were a pain to put back on. Loose blankets are also suffocating hazards and really unsafe. I recommend getting a Velcro or zip up swaddle to keep your baby safe and snuggled up!
  2. Set the room right: Like I mentioned above, babies are used to being in the darkness of your womb. They are used to the sounds of your body lulling them to sleep. Ladies, learn from my mistakes! Get the black out curtains! Make the room as dark as possible (with a little light if you need to come in for night feedings and changings in the early days/weeks). We waited until our third child to get black out curtains and we kicked ourselves for not doing it sooner! Another helpful device is a sound machine. This will remind your baby of the sounds from your body which will help them fall asleep and go back to sleep quicker if they wake up.
  3. Pacifier: Offering your baby an infant pacifier may help your baby sleep better. Babies naturally need nonnutritive sucking and a newborn pacifier can curb that desire. A newborn pacifier will help to soothe them so that they can fall asleep or back to sleep quicker!

One of the most frustrating parts of offering your baby a pacifier is that the pacifier keeps falling out. The Ingy Bingy Band is a pacifier clip alternative. It is a pacifier wristband that velcros to your baby’s wrist so that they can self-soothe from about 4 months of age! The newborn pacifier attaches to the pacifier wristband so it’s always within their reach! When it falls out, they simply move their arm back up to their mouth to get their pacifier instead of you losing sanity and having to lose sleep to do it for them!

  1. Sleep Training: If these tips don’t help you can always try sleep training when your baby gets to an appropriate age. The book 12 hours of sleep in 12 weeks helped our middle child sleep through the night in less than 10 weeks! They focus on getting your baby enough calories during the day to help them feel full enough to skip their night feedings. It does have sleep training in it, but our son didn’t even need the sleep training portion because focusing on getting his calories in helped him so much! We have other blogs that focus on how and when to sleep train your child as well if you are really at your wits end!

Best of luck on getting your sweet baby to sleep all night long! We are cheering you on! Always know that you are doing a great job and are the perfect mom for your baby!
